Children of the Revolution

This project has a history focus and teaches children about the Victorian era including the lives of the rich and poor and other significant social and moral changes of the 19th century. At the heart of this project children learn how to write newspaper and other reports on an historical theme and learn additional skills of explanation writing.

In this project the children will learn:

• About the Victorian era;

• About the social, moral and technological issues of the day;

• About the important people of the day including those who influenced and made changes;

• About the literature of the day and how it was used to entertain and inform;

• How to write a range of reports;

• About the differences between childhood in the present day and in Victorian times.


The Senses

This project has a science focus and teaches children about light and sound and how they travel. At the heart of this project children learn how to write poems on the theme of light and sound and learn additional skills in scientific recording and explanation writing. In the Innovate Stage children apply their skills and understanding by using light and sound to create an interactive sensory area.

In this project the children will learn:

How sound travels and how sounds can be made louder and quieter;

How ears and eyes work and the names of their different parts of the ear and eye;

How shadows are formed and how these change according to the position of the sun;

About significant people and inventors who advanced the technology of light and sound;

How the absence of sight and hearing affects people’s everyday life;

How to use light and sound creatively in art, music and other creative media such as photography;

How to write poems on a theme.

Homework:- Handed out Thursday and returned Tuesday

Reading books:- To be brought into school every day
